Who is responsible

Information we may collect

We collect information reasonably necessary to respond to an inquiry and complete preliminary intake. This can include:

• your name, email address, telephone number, and preferred contact details;
• information about the traffic charge, court location, ticket date, and the details you choose to provide;
• a ticket, offence notice, summons, or other file you choose to upload;
• communications with you about your inquiry or potential representation; and
• technical and advertising information, such as the page you used, referring URL, browser or device information, and advertising click identifiers or campaign parameters associated with a visit.

Purpose, consent, and intake

We use personal information to respond to you, assess whether we may be able to assist with an Ontario traffic matter, conduct preliminary intake and conflict checks where appropriate, communicate about requested services, protect the security of the website, and measure the effectiveness of advertising. We collect and use information only for purposes that are reasonably appropriate in the circumstances or otherwise permitted or required by law.

By voluntarily calling, emailing, submitting a form, or uploading a file, you consent to the collection, use, and disclosure described in this policy for those purposes. You may withdraw consent, subject to legal and contractual restrictions, by contacting the Privacy Officer. Withdrawing consent may prevent us from responding to, assessing, or acting on your request.

Submitting information is for preliminary intake only and is not legal advice. It does not create a paralegal-client relationship. ParaCan will not act for you unless it confirms in writing that it has agreed to represent you.

What to upload

Upload only the ticket, offence notice, or summons you want reviewed. Do not upload disclosure, medical records, financial documents, or other highly sensitive material through this website. If additional documents are needed, we will tell you how to provide them.

Service providers and disclosure

We use service providers to operate this website, help protect it from abuse, store preliminary intake files, send and receive email, and measure advertising activity. These providers may include Bluehost for hosting and file storage, Cloudflare for DNS and website security services, Google and Meta Platforms for advertising and website measurement, and our email and mailbox providers.

We do not sell or rent personal information. We may disclose personal information to authorized service providers acting for us, with your consent, when required or permitted by law, to comply with a court order or lawful process, or where otherwise permitted by applicable professional or legal obligations. Service providers are expected to protect information in a manner appropriate to its sensitivity.

Some service providers may process or store information outside Canada. Information processed in another country may be subject to the laws of that country, including lawful access requirements.

Storage, email delivery, and safeguards

Website uploads are validated on our server and stored outside the publicly accessible portion of our website. A submitted ticket file is also sent as an attachment to our intake mailbox so we can review and respond to the request. Access is limited to people authorized to handle intake and representation matters.

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information. No website, email system, or method of electronic transmission is completely secure. Please use the upload limits above and do not send highly sensitive documents unless we provide a different method for doing so.

Retention and deletion

We retain preliminary intake information, including uploaded ticket files and related email attachments, for up to 90 days from collection. After that period, we delete or anonymize it unless a longer period is reasonably necessary to respond to your request, establish, exercise, or defend a legal claim, meet legal or professional obligations, or because ParaCan has agreed in writing to represent you. Information for retained matters is handled under the records-retention practices applicable to that engagement.

Advertising, cookies, and analytics

Our website uses Google Ads, Google tag technology, Meta Pixel technology, and limited server-side Meta conversion technology to understand website visits and advertising performance. These services may receive technical information about a visit, such as pages viewed, referring URL, browser or device information, cookies, IP address, event time, and advertising click identifiers or campaign parameters. We do not intentionally send the contents of your ticket, uploaded files, form narrative, or contact details to Google Ads or Meta through these technologies.

You can control many cookies and similar technologies through your browser settings. Third-party providers may also offer their own privacy controls and policies.

Access, correction, and complaints

You may ask to access or correct personal information we hold about you, subject to applicable legal exceptions. Send your request to help@paracanlegal.com with enough detail for us to identify the information at issue. We will respond within the time required by applicable law, generally within 30 days for an access request, subject to any permitted extension or exception.

If you have a privacy concern, contact our Privacy Officer first so we can investigate it. If a concern is not resolved, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Privacy incidents

We will investigate suspected privacy incidents, maintain records where required, and notify affected individuals and the appropriate privacy authority when required by applicable law.

Updates to this policy

We may update this policy to reflect changes to our practices, providers, or legal obligations. The current version will be posted on this page with its effective date.
